The Laying on of Hands is the ritual action of calling upon the Holy Spirit

In the New Testament the laying on of hands is associated with the receiving of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:14-19). Initially the Apostles laid hands on new believers as well as those who were called to a particular service. (Acts 6:5).

Pentecost, culminates our 50-day Easter celebration of salvation. We are reminded that our Receiving the Gift of the Holy Spirit continues our salvation story: we become 'joint heirs with Christ' advocates of God's presence.

Don't let the Pentecostals "steal" something that was Catholic from the beginning.

 Jesus and His apostles Laid Hands on people to heal them, to impart the gift of the Holy Spirit, and to ordain ministers.

1. "When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied" (Acts 19:6).

2. "Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands upon them" (Acts 6:6).

3. Jesus and his apostles healed through laying on of hands. (Matt. 9:18; Mark 5:23, 6:5, 8:22-25; Luke 4:40, 13:13; Acts 28:8)

4. "Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit" (Acts 8:17-19).

5. "Stir up the gift of God that is in thee, by the laying on of my hands" (2 Tim. 1:6).

6. "Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbyter" (1 Tim. 4:14).

7. "Don't be in a hurry to place your hands on anyone [to ordain him]. Don't participate in the sins of others. Keep yourself morally pure" (1 Tim. 5:22)

The laying on of hands continues today in the Sacrament of Holy Orders when the bishop places his hands on the priest or deacon. It was always my understanding that only theapostles and their successors (the bishops) should be doing this (but I could be wrong). I am not sure who lays hands on people during a charismatic prayer service or healing Mass, what this involves, nor do I understand it, as I have never been to one.

Maybe it's time to clear away some debris.

Sometimes the gifts that we have already received through Baptism and Confirmation have not become fully effective in our lives because our attachments, inclinations and sins are blocking the action of grace in our souls. Think of how a build-up of plaque in our arteries can block the flow of blood to our heart and brain.

The Effects of the Sacrament of Confirmation:

The Sacrament of Confirmation confers special graces of the Holy Spirit upon the person being confirmed, just as such graces were granted to the Apostles on Pentecost. Like Baptism, therefore, it can only be performed once, and Confirmation increases and deepens all of the graces granted at Baptism.

PENTECOST - Jesus Sends The Holy Spirit Upon The Apostles.(Acts 2:1-41)

Filled with the Holy Spirit - Spirit as Received In Baptism 

All things came into existence by the Power of the Holy Spirit, It was by God's Spirit the Prophets proclaimed God's Glory. It was by the Holy Spirit Mary got Conceived and Jesus Christ was Born. Great Miracles and Wonders were performed by the Apostles of Jesus after they had Received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost. The Holy Church was Born by the Fruits and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Now it becomes very clear that God Works through the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8.16 says, It is God's Spirit that joins Himself to our Spirit to declare that we are God's Children's. The Holy Spirit is the Mark of God's Approval on us (Spirit as Received In Baptism)  The Holy Spirit is the Strong Anchor of God, One's it is placed in us no storm that comes in our lives can move us. It is the Holy Spirit that puts us Right with God. 

Bible Says: Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him Romans 8:9. There is Nothing more Important in our Spiritual life than to Grow In the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are Active or Activated In us by the Help of the Holy Church - Join the Charismatic Renewal Prayer Meetings.  II Tim 1:6, “I remind you to stir into Flame, the Gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands.” --- Bridon Francis Dsouza.

An often asked question in the Forums concerns the legitimacy of the Charismatic Renewal and the phenomena associated with it. In the interests of full disclosure let me start by saying that I have never been, nor am I now, a member of this movement. The Church has never lacked charisms to build it up, both ordinary and extraordinary. However, it is the widespread  experience of the Holy Spirit's presence within Catholics and the manifestation of extraordinary charisms such as prophecy, speaking in tongues and healing, outside of those of evident great sanctity, which has characterized the Charismatic Renewal. This needs to be explained to understand what it means when the Church says that the Charismatic Renewal is an authentic movement of the Spirit in our times.

The Charismatic Renewal as a movement within the Catholic Church has been acknowledged by two Popes, Paul VI and John Paul II. Speaking to the International Conference on the Catholic Charismatic Renewal on May 19, 1975, Pope Paul VI encouraged the attendees in their renewal efforts and especially to remain anchored in the Church.

THE ORIGIN OF THE CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL

The outpouring and manifestation of the Holy Spirit at the first Pentecost continues in the Church today. The gift of the Spirit, as promised by Jesus and sent by the Father, is for all believers. ONE GIFT {GIFT OF TONGUES} COVERS ALL GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

One Gift {Gift of Tongues} covers all Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The First Gift that God gave to the Church {Believers} on the Day of Pentecost, was the Gift of Tongues {Speaking in Strange Tongues}  Acts 10:44-48.  Why did God gave the Gift of Tongues First among All the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost?  It is because this One Gift, which is the Gift of Tongues Covers All the Other Six Gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Gift of Tongues is no less than any other Gifts, In-fact the Gift of Tongues is the Mother of All the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.  God will always give His children's the Best First, thats why God gave the Gift of speaking in strange Language First to the Church {Christians}.

By Speaking in Tongues we open the door for All the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to come in us.

The feast of the Visitation recalls to us the following GREAT TRUTHS and EVENTS: 

1. The visit of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her cousin Elizabeth shortly after the Annunciation; (Lk.139-40) 

2. The cleansing of John the Baptist from original sin in the womb of his mother at the words of Our Lady's greeting; (the infant leaped in her womb,and Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit - (Lk. 1:41, cf alo with Angel Gabriel's prophesy: Lk.1:15, "For he shall be great before the Lord; and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother' s womb).

3. Elizabeth's proclaiming of Mary—under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost—as Mother of God - (Lk1: .41-42)

4. And "blessed among women"; Mary's singing of the sublime hymn, Magnificat - (Lk.1: 42)

Since early this morning, my soul has been touched by God. After Holy Communion, I communed for a while with the heavenly Father. My soul was drawn into the glowing center of love. I understood that no exterior works could stand comparison with pure love of God….. I saw the joy of the Incarnate Word, and I was immersed in the Divine Trinity. When I came to myself, longing filled my soul, and I yearned to be united (33) with God. Such tremendous love for the heavenly Father enveloped me that I call this day an uninterrupted ecstasy of love. The whole universe seemed to me like a tiny drop in comparison with God. There is no greater happiness than when God gives me to know interiorly that every beat of my heart is pleasing to Him, and when He shows me that He loves me in a special way. This strong inner conviction, by which God assures me of His love for me and of how much my soul pleases Him, brings deep peace to my soul. Throughout this day, I was unable to take any food; I felt gratified to the full with love. ST. FAUSTINA DIARY 1121 May 6, [1937].

THE FEAST OF ASCENSION Encourage us to Await for the Second Coming of Jesus Acts 1:11 “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

CHRIST AS DIED, CHRIST IS RISEN, CHRIST WILL COME AGAIN.

Mary Help of Christians, As You Witnessed with Joy the Ascension of Jesus in Heaven, Help us to Joyfully Await for the Final Coming of Jesus from Heaven.

All believers have been given a share in the task - to be heralds of the good news and ambassadors for Jesus Christ, the only savior of the world. We have not been left alone in this task, for the risen Lord works in and through us by the power of his Holy Spirit.
